Both use the Dragon Core, so the cover is the difference. The polished pearl gets down the lane cleaner than the solid, reads later, and makes a sharper, more angular move at the back end. A common way to pair them is the solid Black Dragon on fresh heavy oil, then the pearl as the lane transitions and the solid starts hooking too early.
